OUR PHILOSOPHY

Big Shrimpy recognizes that our future quality of life depends on sustaining the quality of our natural environment. Every facet of our society, from individuals to businesses to governments, need to take responsibility for how our actions affect the environment we live in. One way that our environment is damaged is by inefficient use of natural resources.

Therefore Big Shrimpy emphasizes manufacturing products that reduce the amount of natural resources withdrawn from the Earth. We do this by (1) where possible, salvaging waste materials from other industries to use in our products, thus diverting waste from landfills and reducing our company’s demand for new raw materials and (2) designing products to have a longer than average life in order to slow the cycle of throw-away-and-buy-another, again reducing the need for new raw materials.

We “package” these environmentally friendly characteristics in products that are functional and comfortable for pets, stylish enough for any living space, and have other design features useful to pet owners, such as easy and complete washablity. As such, our products would be purchased for their design features alone.

Our goal is that 70% of our annual sales revenue will be from products containing at least 50% recycled materials. Big Shrimpy further emphasizes following environmentally sustainable practices in the company’s day-to-day activities and donates a portion of its annual product sales to a non-profit organization that works to encourage environmentally friendly business practices.

OUR MISSION

Big Shrimpy creates pet products that are comfortable and functional for pets, stylish enough for any living space, and with design features useful to pet owners. Within these parameters, we strive to wisely use Earth’s resources by designing our products to last longer than typical pet products and by using recycled materials in the majority of our products.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Percentage of annual product sales revenue from products containing at least 50% recycled materials:

In 2002, 86% of our product sales revenue came from products using at least 50% recycled materials.

In 2003, 93% of our product sales revenue came from products using at least 50% recycled materials.

In 2004, 96% of our product sales revenue came from products using at least 50% recycled materials.

In 2005, 97% of our product sales revenue came from products using at least 50% recycled materials.

In 2006, 96% of our product sales revenue came from products using at least 50% recycled materials.

Amount of recycled material used:

2002: Big Shrimpy recycled 8,200 lbs. of fleece scraps from North American clothing manufacturers.

2003: Big Shrimpy recycled 30,500 lbs. of fleece scraps from North American clothing manufacturers.

2004: Big Shrimpy recycled 49,300 lbs. of fleece scraps from North American clothing manufacturers.

2005: Big Shrimpy recycled 61,000 lbs. of fleece scraps from North American clothing manufacturers.

2006: Big Shrimpy recycled 75,200 lbs. of fleece scraps from North American clothing manufacturers.
